The BCCI has called an emergency meeting of its working committee in Delhi on Monday to discuss the fate of the Rajasthan Royals team in the IPL after the Delhi Police said the franchises co-owner Raj Kundra had admitted to betting on his team.
We have taken cognisance of the Raj Kundra issue. We are going to discuss it in our emergent working committee meeting on June 10 and if necessary, stringent measures will be taken, the BCCIs functional head,Jagmohan Dalmiya, told a press conference Thursday.
Although Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar has said that Kundras actor-wife Shilpa Shettys name has also emerged in the betting probe,Dalmiya said the BCCI so far had information only about Kundra.
Clause 11.3 C of the BCCI-IPL franchise agreement says that if any franchise group or owner acts in a way which has a material adverse effect on the reputation of the BCCI or the league then the agreement will be terminated.
By that yardstick, the Chennai Super Kings team would also be in the dock as its former chief Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested for his alleged involvement in the betting racket. Dalmiya, however, said CSKs case would be decided only after the probe panel submits it report.
The BCCI had originally formed a three-member committee comprising of retired judges T Jayaram Chouta and R Balasubramanian and then BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale. But with Jagdale resigning from his post, the panel will have only the former judges.
It will be a two-member commission. I have full faith in the retired judges. We are also not going to set a time-frame for them. We want them to look into all the details, Dalmiya said. The board,he said, has received an interim report on the alleged involvement of three Rajasthan Royals players 8211; S Sreesanth,Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila 8211; in spot-fixing from its anti-corruption official Ravi Sawani.
We have sought some more details from Delhi and Mumbai police, Dalmiya said.
The BCCI has also taken note of media reports about Indian captain M S Dhonis alleged conflict of interest,Dalmiya said. We are not going to do a cover-up. Thats for sure. But the team is playing in the Champions Trophy at the moment and we are not going to achieve anything by disturbing him at this juncture. We will look into it later, he said.
Dalmiya Thursday appointed Sanjay Patel from the Baroda Cricket Association as the new BCCI secretary and said the post of treasurer would be filled up in a day or two.
