Sonia tells party to help in rescue

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday directed Congress chief ministers and party units to extend help in stranded in Kedarnath,Badrinath,Hemkund Sahib,Gangotri-Uttarakashi and Gangotri-Yamunotri.

The Prime Minister has appealed to the public for generous donations for the victims who have suffered “extensive devastation”.

Sonia is in constant touch with the CMs of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and instructions have been given to work overtime to re-establish communication links. The Congress president,sources said,has called for intensifying the efforts to rescue those stranded and provide food and relief material to them. “The entire operation is being monitored by the Congress president in the last two days to oversee the rescue operations and instructing our chief ministers and our party units to help in the rescue operations,” AICC general secretary Ajay Maken said.
