Sonia echoes Rahul: No post-poll tie-up

Congress president Sonia Gandhi said her party was contesting the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections to form a government and not to forge a coalition with any party

Congress president Sonia Gandhi said her party was contesting the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections to form a government and not to forge a coalition with any party.

Addressing an election meeting in Chamrauli area of Unnao on Wednesday, she said there was no difference between the BJP,the BSP and the Samajwadi Party,as all these parties had entered into alliances with each other at different times and ruined the state by distributing chairs posts to serve their vested interests.

Referring to the various welfare schemes of the UPA government, like the loan waiver for farmers and the package for weavers, she said things would have been worse in the absence of these.

Attacking the BSP,Gandhi said that the Centre sent lots of money to the state for public welfare purposes, but people of the state would now have to take account of how much of it reached them.

Addressing a meeting in Allahabad, she said the city lacked infrastructure.

Local Congressman,Baba Awasthi, who had left the party red-faced with his poster asking Rahul Gandhi to take over leadership of the party even as Sonia Gandhi underwent treatment in the US,today seemed to have made up for it.

Given the post of election coordinator in the district,Awasthi, along with city Congress chief Shyam Krishna Pandey, presented Sonia with an ankush the leash used by mahouts to control the elephant. Pandey said the ankush would control the rampaging elephant.
