With fresh snowfall in the upper reaches of Kashmir,the Srinagar-Jammu national highway that was closed on Saturday could not be opened for a third consecutive day. Snowfall on the national highway has left hundreds of vehicles carrying essential items stranded.
The 300 km-long highway was closed due to snowfall in Banihal and parts of South Kashmir on Saturday evening.
Director of Metrological Department Sonum Lotus said these areas also witnessed light to moderate snowfall on Monday morning. The weather will improve by afternoon and there will be decrease in snowfall activity from this evening, he said.
Officials said once the weather improves efforts will be made to clear the the stranded vehicles off the highway.
