Shinde asks VIPs to not visit state
New Delhi: At a time when Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is visiting the flood-hit areas of Uttarakhand,the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde advised VIPs not to visit the rain-ravaged state saying such visits created difficulties in relief and rescue operations. We advise all VIPs not to visit Uttarakhand now. All agencies are engaged in relief and rescue efforts. Such visits hamper their work, Shinde said.
Parents of dead UP officer want body
Lucknow: Rescued family members of 49-year-old Indian Forest Service officer Atul Kumar Agrawal have been brought back to Lucknow,but his wife and kids cannot forget the trauma when their father died of heart attack in the absence of any medical help on the hills of Rambara after the flash floods. Now,his elderly parents staying in Ashiana Colony of Lucknow have only one desire 8211; someone should bring back the body of their son so that they can perform his last rites. But,family members,who have seen it all in the flood-hit Uttrakhand have little hope.
11 bodies recovered from UP rivers
Lucknow: As many as 11 decomposed bodies have been recovered from Ganga river in Bijnor and Bulandshahr districts and from Sharda river in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh since Friday. The bodies appear to have come from flood-affected areas of Uttarakhand and have not yet been identified,said Bulandshahr police spokesperson Yatindra Kumar. He said the bodies have been preserved and photographs are being publicised. He said the police will also take DNA samples of the bodies for future identification. The police said three bodies were recovered from Ganga river in Bulandshahr district on Monday.
