The rupee stayed close to 2-week lows on Tuesday as losses in other regional sharemarkets raised worries foreigners could withdraw funds from local stocks.
At 9:15 a.m. the partially convertible rupee was at 47.67/70 per dollar,weaker than its Monday8217;s close of 47.555/565 when it fell to 47.75 during trade,its weakest since May 28.
Most Asian currencies were lower versus the dollar and the dollar index,a gauge of the US unit8217;s performance against majors,was up 0.2 per cent.
Asian stocks were lower at 0340 GMT. The Nikkei was down 1 per cent,the Hang Seng fell 2.2 per cent,the Kospi shed 0.9 per cent and the Shanghai Composite index dropped 1 per cent.
The MSCI index of Asian stocks outside Japan was 1.3 per cent lower,while the Nifty stock futures traded in Singapore were down 0.9 per cent,indicating a lower opening in the domestic market.
