Four days after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat called for an inclusive Hindutva in his address at Jammu University, key RSS leader Suresh Soni on Saturday reiterated the idea adding that the RSSs idea of Hindutva was that of a way of life something that had been validated by the Supreme Court.
Like Bhagwat who has lately invoked the names of A P J Abdul Kalam and Verghese Kurien in his speeches on Hindutva it was Kalam whose name figured more prominently than even RSS founder K B Hedgewars in Sonis 50-minute speech. The RSS leader claimed that the former President had once called to spiritualise religions and nationalise citizens here and that Kalams roadmap could address most of the problems afflicting the country. Soni was speaking at the conclusion of an RSS Officers Training Camp, where a total of 208 volunteers drawn from five north Indian states participated.
With the RSS lately known for at least two dominant competing streams of thought, and Soni heading one of the groups, his views on a liberal Hindutva and diversity were in consonance with those of Bhagwat and senior BJP leader L K Advani who spoke on the subject at the BJP national executive here last week.
We respect diversity, and our thrust on vasudev kutumbkam essentially is an embodiment of this philosophy. But this is possible only when all religions agree on a common understanding on the right to co-exist, said the RSS leader. Soni, however, added that even moderates were being dubbed as kafirs in Islam. Why do they the Muslims need to encourage stereotypes in forms of beards and burqas, thus keeping them away from the educational mainstream, asked Soni, alluding to what he said was his understanding of a sizable section of Muslims. The mindset among them that you need to be a conformist and a believer lies at the core of the conflict, the answer to this lies in Kalams call to spiritualise religion, added Soni.
