The CBI on Friday told the Supreme Court that the Tamil Nadu government has sent a formal request for the transfer of probe into the suicide of Sadhick Batcha at his Chennai home on March 16.
Batcha was being questioned by the CBI in connection with the 2G case at the time of his death. His suicide note allegedly said that he was under pressure.
A request for transfer has been issued by the state government. CBI is prepared to investigate Batchas death, senior advocate K K Venugopal,representing the agency in the 2G scam case,told a Bench of Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly.
The CBIs announcement comes after a fortnight of uncertainty as to whether the DMK government had actually followed up on its assurance that the case would be transferred to the CBI from the state polices hands.
Appearing for the Centre,Additional Solicitor General Indira Jaising submitted that once the request is received from the state government,our notification will definitely be issued. The Centres notification would formally signify its assent to the states request for a CBI probe.
