The Indian railways is gearing up to increase the speed of its existing superfast trains to 160-200kmph.
Rajdhanis,Shatabdis and Durontos are slated to undergo a gradual increase in their speed in the next few years and a plan to augment the technical capability to the existing infrastructure is on the cards,Railway Board Chairman Arunendra Kumar said on Wednesday.
The speed of these trains will be increased to 160-200 kmph,which will decrease travel time. To begin with,the Shatabdi routes from Delhi to Bhopal,Lucknow etc will be tried. Rajdhani and Duronto will follow, Kumar said. He added that though nothing had been fixed yet,the trains could be running at semi high-speeds before 2017.
