For all those who wonder how Rahul Gandhi keeps up with his hectic schedule without showing any dip in energy, heres the answer. The young Congress general secretary,an avid fitness and exercise buff,is known to keep his energy levels high with high protein energy drinks. The young leader has also handed out bottles to people who accompany him, becoming an unofficial brand ambassador for the drink.

Members Forum

The Comptroller and Auditor General CAG has restricted access to certain sections of its official website dealing with its methodology of auditing. Coming as it did ahead of CAG Vinod Rais appearance before the Joint Parliamentary Committee JPC on November 14,the move invited sharp remarks from Congress JPC members who had been trolling the site to understand the CAGs auditing methodology. One member quipped that even the high priest of transparency has to restrict access to certain parts of the website, which has now been designated Members Forum and not open to general public.

Didis Dilemma

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is learnt to have directed her anger on the petrol price hike at Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and not Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy. Her reason: why did Mukherjee allow this to happen when the Prime Minister was out of the country? Meanwhile, officials at the Rail Bhawan were drawing their own conclusions from Mamatas anger. They feel the fate of next years Rail Budget was now sealed. Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi, who belongs to Trinamool Congress, cannot even attempt at increasing passenger fares in the budget. If Didi was so angry at Rs 1.8 increase in petrol prices, one can just imagine how she would react to attempts to increase railway fares, they argue.

New Charge

There is a new officer investigating RTI activist Shehla Masoods murder case. Arun Bothra,a 1996 batch IPS officer, has just been made in-charge of the special CBI crime branch and been assigned Masoods case. Bothra has been brought from the CBI office in Kolkata where he was handling the Purulia arms drop case. Incidentally,Bothras predecessor in the special crimes department,Ashok Tiwari, has also been retained in Delhi. An earlier order said that Tiwari would be moved to the Kolkata office but it was later amended and he was given the charge of the Multi-disciplinary Monitoring Agency MDMA which is investigating the conspiracy angle in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Aborted Effort

Union Minister Harish Rawats attempt to score some brownie points in the party were nullified by Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi recently. Rawat had brought a sitting Samajwadi Party MLA in Uttarakhand Assembly and a former BSP MLA to the party headquarters to announce their entry into the Congress at a press conference. Unlike earlier occasions when such leaders were brought to the dais and given an opportunity to speak,Rawat and the two other leaders were made to sit along with journalists in the audience as Singhvi announced and welcomed the new entrants. They were called to the dais for a photo-op and then had to leave without saying a word.
