A Deputy Superintendent of Police and a young woman were found murdered at a farmhouse located on the outskirts of the city on Thursday.
While the officer has been identified as Balraj Singh Gill,who was posted on election duty at Moga,the police are yet to establish the identity of the woman in her 20s.
Police Commissioner Ishwar Chand Sharma said: The family of the police officer had reported to us that he had been missing since Wednesday evening,and his mobile phone was switched off. Our search operation led us to the farmhouse.
According to the police,the DSP and the woman had been attacked by sharp weapons. The police suspect there were at least three killers. Sources said Gill was a frequent visitor to the farmhouse owned by his businessman friend Sanjay Agnihotri.
The womans mobile phone and purse were missing. The killers took away Gills car,mobile phone and purse. The car was last seen in Noorpur Bet. We have sent five teams,each headed by an ACP,to investigate the matter, said Sharma.
