Senior BJP leader L K Advanis praise for UPAs flagship rural employment guarantee scheme,MNREGS,at the UN last week had Congressmen smiling back home,but,for a change,the ruling party refrained from trying to gain any political mileage out of it. Party strategists were of the view that it would be improper to politicise the proper and statesmanlike conduct of Advani on foreign soil. Party spokespersons were,therefore,directed not to even talk about it.

Secularism and social harmony seem to be the buzzword of the BJP these days. After L K Advani and Nitin Gadkari,it was the turn of firebrand Hindutva leader Uma Bharti to see the virtues of social harmony at a public gathering. On her Save Ganga campaign,which she started from West Bengal,Bharti was in Bhagalpur in Bihar a few days back where the theme of her public speech was about unifying the differences between communities. Needless to say,she stressed that the Ganga river was one such unifying element. The gathering was organised by BJP MP Shahnawaz Hussain,who represents Bhagalpur in the Lok Sabha.
