Prahaar test-fired successfully

This single-stage missile with a range of 150 km took off at 8.15 am from a road mobile launcher in Launch Complex 3 of ITR.

Prahaar,a short-range surface-to-surface missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, was successfully test-fired on its maiden launch from the Integrated Test Range ITR at Chandipur on Thursday .

This single-stage missile with a range of 150 km took off at 8.15 am from a road mobile launcher in Launch Complex 3 of ITR. The missile went to a height of 35 km before reaching the targets of the range of 150 km in about 250 seconds. Equipped with high-accuracy navigation, guidance and electro-mechanical actuation systems,it achieved terminal accuracy of less than 10 metres, said a DRDO scientist.

The flight path of the missile was monitored by various radar systems and electro-optical systems located along Orissas coast.

Like Pinaka missile, several Prahaar missiles can be fired in salvo mode in all directions covering the entire azimuth plane. With greater accuracy than the missiles used by the Army,DRDO sources said,Prahaar would fill the gap between Pinaka, with a range of 45 km,and the Prithvi guided missile that can attack targets 250-350 km away. DRDO scientists described Prahaar as the ATACMS Missile of USA.
