Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to make his first public appearance after his bypass next week.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to make his first public appearance after his bypass next week. According to sources,Singh is expected to attend a meeting with Thomas Yayi Boni,president of Benin on March 4.

The redo bypass patients generally start active work by the end of the sixth week of their surgery. The PM has completed the fifth week and will,hopefully,resume work by the end of the sixth week around March 9. But next week,he is likely to meet the visiting head of state, a source said.

The PM had a coronary bypass surgery on January 24 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Singhs recovery room at his official residence at 3,Race Course Road,has been changed into a mini-office. Hes briefed daily on developments in Dhaka. All important files are being sent to him regularly, the source said.

Though the PM is following his post-operative exercise and physiotherapy sessions,doctors are trying to reschedule the regimen to suit the PMO timings. At present he does a 50-minute brisk walk on the treadmill divided into 15 to 20-minute sessions through the day and 30 minutes of physiotherapy. His recovery,doctors say,is on track except for a cold someone passed on to him last week.
