The Madras High Court on Tuesday rejected the CBIs argument and granted anticipatory bail to a doctor and his son,who are accused in a mark tampering case at the Pondicherry University.
The case had made headlines after Justice R Regupathi of the High Court made a stunning revelation that a Union Minister had sought to influence him to grant bail. However,Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan later clarified that no minister had spoken to the judge.
Justice M Jeyapaul, before whom the bail petition came after Regupathi withdrew himself, accepted the defence counsels argument that all evidences pertaining to the investigation into the mark tampering case were in the custody of the CBI,making it impossible for the petitioners to influence the investigation.
Dr C Krishnamurthy and his son,Kiruba Sridhar,a medical student, were granted anticipatory bail, subject to fulfilling conditions set by the court.
Sridhar allegedly used the service of a few university officials and middlemen to score high marks in the examinations.
