Punjab National Bank (PNB),with a presence in ten countries is looking at adding a eleventh: Pakistan.
The bank,which originally began in Lahore,has applied for permission for a banking licence and if all goes well,a branch will be opened in its city of birth.
This was disclosed by KR Kamath,CMD of PNB on his visit to the city. Kamath said,Already two Pakistan banks have been okayed to open their branches in India,so we hope that the same will be done for Indian banks as well…
Kamath added that PNB is looking to start operations in Canadian cities with a high proportion of Punjabi population after its success in the United Kingdom,where PNB is popular among Punjabi NRIs.
Kamath told that global business grew in the last financial year to 5 per cent.
PNB operates in Hong Kong,Afghanistan,UAE,UK,Bhutan,Nepal,Norway,among others.
