Almost five weeks after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh underwent a by-pass heart surgery,he held his first official meeting on Wednesday. The Prime Minister met Benin President Boni Yayi at his residence.

Singh is expected to sign agreements with Yayi on bilateral cooperation.

While it was his first official meeting after the surgery, doctors attending to him said that he had started attending office from Monday and had been keeping a watch on national and international affairs.

Dr Ramakanta Panda of the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai, who had conducted the surgery on the Prime Minister, said Singh underwent tests including a chest X-Ray on Sunday at the AIIMS.

He has been progressing well thats why we gave him a go ahead. He actually started working full-fledged from Monday, Dr Panda told The Indian Express.

Dr K Srinath Reddy, the Prime Ministers personal physician, said: We are hoping that he will continue to do well and will return to active schedule within a week.

Singh will make his first official trip after recovery on April 2 to London for the G20 summit.
