Orissa RTO fraud: FIR names 2 staff of Noida firm

The two data entry operators are absconding.

Officials of the transport department are in a tizzy after two employees of a software company reportedly misappropriated Rs 11.69 lakh tax by stealing the password of Regional Transport Officers in Koraput.

Last week, two computer operators of Noida-based Smart Chip Ltd,the software company and partner of Orissa transport department in online tax collection, were found to have pocketed Rs 11.69 lakh by tinkering with software. According to the FIR lodged with the Koraput police by Deputy Commissioner of transport department B K Behera,Suman Panda and Mahanandia hacked the passwords of RTO and Additional RTO and cancelled the money receipts online. The fraud came to fore when an official of Smart Chip found major discrepancies between tax revenue collection and data entered in the system. The department contacted the National Informatics Centres Bhubaneswar office which found that the duo committed the fraud. The two data entry operators are absconding.

But senior technical director of NIC in Orissa,B K Panda said,Its quite possible that the passwords were given to the data entry operators by the RTO himself.

Koraput police said the RTO officials need to explain how the fraud happened without their knowledge.
