The benefit of the waiver of Rs 16 per LPG cylinder offered by the West Bengal government cannot be availed of by consumers till a notification is issued by it.
“We cannot change the retail price unless there is a notification for the waiver of 4 per cent VAT by West Bengal government,” IOC sources said.
This means consumers will have to pay Rs 417 per cylinder, while its price should be Rs 401 after the waiver.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee assured the waiver will be effective from today though the notification will be issued on Monday as it is a holiday.
“It is not practically possible to either give back or take any tax collected till the notification is issued,” the official said.
IOC alone sells close to one lakh LPG cylinders a day.
Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum are the two other oil PSUs which distribute LPG gas.
West Bengal, the first state to reduce the burden of petro price hike, will incur a loss of Rs 75 crore due to the announcement.
