Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI had not yet approached him or sought information on the alleged Adarsh Housing Society scam.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI had not yet approached him or sought information on the alleged Adarsh Housing Society scam. Chavan, who offered his resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi over the controversy, was speaking to reporters in Mumbai before leaving for his hometown of Nanded to celebrate Diwali.

Without recommendations from the state so far,Chavan said the CBI may have been told by the Defence Ministry or the Centre to conduct an inquiry. I am not aware of the technical details. They may be conducting an inquiry as there is an impression that the Defence is connected. I still maintain that it is Maharashtra government land, said Chavan.

He added: So far,CBI has not approached me for inquiry. I dont think there is anything objectionable in an inquiry. Chavan said various agencies are conducting inquiries in the matter as per their issues MoEF is looking into CRZ issues and Defence is probing because defence personnel are involved.

Chavan added that the state government had already revoked permission to the Society and that he would clarify his stand at the appropriate time.

Meanwhile,Maharashtra Navnirman Sena MNS chief Raj Thackeray came out in veiled support of the CM,when he said that the media need not conduct a trial in the matter. If anyone is proven to be guilty, then action should be taken against them. There is no need for the media to conduct a trial against the CM and he should not go because a paper thinks so, said Thackeray.
