No threat to cricket series: Interpol

The Interpol told the Central Bureau of Investigation that there was no threat to the World Cup Cricket series and termed recent reports in this connection as wrong.

The Interpol on Monday told the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI that there was no threat to the World Cup Cricket series and termed recent reports in this connection as wrong.

According to CBI officials, the Interpol contacted the CBI after media reports that the Interpol along with Pakistan police had nabbed a terror suspect who was planning to target the cricket series.

The Interpol said there was no intelligence input from their side that suggested any terror strikes on the ongoing cricketing tournament, said a CBI official.

The CBI said the Interpol,in a telephonic message on Monday afternoon, also said it had not issued any arrest warrant against anyone and that media reports were absolutely wrong.

The world police organisation also denied issuing any arrest warrant against any Maldivian national.

Last week,Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik had claimed there was a threat to the cricket series after they detained a man in Maldives who appeared to be a part of a larger syndicate.
