Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday welcomed L K Advanis proposed rath yatra from Bihar and said it was perfectly- timed with the UPA-II government facing several scams.
For the first time airing his view on the yatra in public, the Chief Minister said he would be present at Sitabdiara, the birth place of Jaiprakash Narayan,to flag off the yatra. Three days ago,BJP national president Nitin Gadkari had spoken to me with the request. In any case,my visit to Sitabdiara was due for opening an electricity sub-station, Kumar said.
He said the senior BJP leaders yatra was well-timed with the country being upset with series of corruption cases under the UPA-II government. I have also undertaken a host of anti-corruption measures like the Right to Public Services Act and confiscation of property of an accused under the Bihar Special Courts Act, he said.
Kumar said his upcoming Seva Yatra from the first week of November would seek public suggestions and response to the new anti-corruption measures.
The Congress, meanwhile, alleged that Advanis yatra was not aimed at highlighting the issue of corruption, but at whipping up communal passionsover the Communal Violence Bill.
The basic characteristic of a man does not change. The issue of corruption is a mukhauta mask. I believe Advani is out to whip up communal passions over Communal Violence Bill, AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry told reporters in New Delhi on Saturday. The BJP has opposed the Bill alleging that it is anti-majority.
Mistry, who hails from Gujarat, also cautioned Kumar against flagging off Advanis rath yatra. Chimanbhai Patel had made a mistake by allowing his rath yatra from Somnath in 1990. It led to the BJP coming to power on its own in Gujarat. My advice to Nitish is that he should not make that mistake. He should rather follow Lalu Yadav who had arrested him.
