While admitting that there had been no breakthrough in Delhi High Court blast yet,top government sources said progress had been made in other cases of terror attacks being handled by the NIA.
With pieces of crucial evidence coming in,the NIA is reportedly close to cracking the December 2010 Varanasi blast case.
Officials also revealed that despite the slow progress, there had been a series of discussions in the Cabinet Committee on Security on establishment of a National Counter Terrorism Centre,on the pattern of a similar nodal agency set up after the 9/11 terror attacks.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram had announced setting up of the NCTC shortly after the 26/11 attack in Mumbai but there has been no consensus among members of the CCS on matter.
Government officials now confirm a tangible movement in creation of the nodal counter-terrorism body. The progress has been slow but eventually the NCTC will come through, they said.
With the Koodankulam protests bringing the issue of nuclear safety back to the forefront, government officials also said that the government was in the process of a thorough review of safety parameters. While we need nuclear power since it is the cheapest and cleanest form of power, all care will be taken for people in different zones of habitation around the plant, an official said.
