NGOs report misleading,misinterprets facts: NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission expressed strong displeasure over a report being released across the country.

The National Human Rights Commission NHRC on Tuesday expressed strong displeasure over a report being released across the country by about 200 non-governmental civil organisations,which have come together under the aegis of All India Network of NGOs and Individuals Working with National and State Human Rights Institutions AiNNI.

The report carries a critical assessment of the commission and its working and was released by former chief justice of India,J S Verma in the Capital early this month followed by Justice H Suresh,a former HC judge,in Mumbai.

8220;Pained8221; by the report,the commission issued a press statement on Tuesday,saying it found the report 8220;misleading as it seeks to misinterpret facts8221;.

AiNNI had questioned the effective functioning of NHRC as a human rights watchdog,as was reported by The Indian Express earlier.

The report comes at a time when the NHRC seeks re-accreditation with the International Co-ordination Committee ICC of National Human Rights Institutions NHRIs in Geneva next month.
