Bangla admin chiefs seek troops in 40 dists
DHAKA: Administrative chiefs of Bangladeshs 40 out of 64 districts have sought deployment of paramilitary and army troops in the wake of nationwide violence over 1971 war crimes trials of Islamist leaders. Abdus Sobhan Shikdar,the Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry,said required steps would be taken in view of the requests by the local administrations.
Meanwhile,police fired rubber bullets and tear gas on Wednesday to break up an anti-government protest called by opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party in Dhaka,injuring scores of people,witnesses and news reports said. PTI
FBI nabs man for ISI HQ bombing
Washington: A Pakistani-American man has been arrested by the FBI on charges of providing material support to terrorists involved in the 2009 suicide attack at the ISI headquarters in Lahore that killed 30 people and wounded more than 300 others. Reaz Qadir Khan,48,was arrested by the FBI at his residence in Portland,Oregon. He made initial appearance Wednesday before Magistrate Paul Papak in federal court in Portland. His detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday. According to the indictment unsealed Wednesday,Khan conspired with a Maldivian national Ali Jaleel and others to provide material support and resources for the terror attack. PTI
Kate hints at baby girl
LONDON: The Duchess of Cambridge,might have accidentally revealed the sex of her unborn child during a conversation with a well-wisher,hinting that the future monarch could be a girl.
When presented with a white teddy bear on a trip to Grimsby,a woman in the crowd said Kate appeared to hint that she was expecting a daughter. I distinctly heard Kate say: Thank you,I will take that for my d8230; Sandra Cook,who was standing next to the woman who presented Kate with the toy,was widely quoted as saying.
