NCP wins Navi Mumbai mayor,dy mayor posts

With his nominees elected as the mayor and the deputy mayor of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation NMMC on Sunday,Excise Minister and NCP leader Ganesh Naik continued to maintain sway over Navi Mumbai. Naiks nephew Sagar has been elected mayor and Bharat Nakhate his deputy.

NCP candidates got 57 votes each to defeat Shiv Senas Jadgish Gavte and Satish Ramane. Congress,which did not have a pre-poll alliance with NCP,abstained.

Meanwhile,the battle for the municipal council presidential poll in Badlapur has taken a new turn with NCP candidate Shridhar Patil,who has been suspended from the party for six years,withdrawing,thus paving the way for the BJP-Sena alliance.
