Jetlite flight makes emergency landing

Kolkata: A Bangalore-bound Jetlite aircraft,S2364,carrying 150 passengers and four crew members on Tuesday had a close shave when it suffered a bird-hit shortly after takeoff and landed in emergency conditions at the NSC Bose International airport here. All passengers and the crew were safe,airport sources said.

SC allows Dutt to go abroad for 6 months

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt,convicted for illegal possession of arms in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts,to go abroad for shooting for six months but refused to grant him the relief for a year. The Bench permitted Dutt,who is on bail,to visit foreign countries from December 1,2009 to May 31,2010 for his professional commitments.

Court order to proceed against Lalu

Muzaffarpur: A district judge on Tuesday ordered a local court to take cognizance of a complaint afresh charging RJD chief Lalu Prasad of landing an IAF helicopter without permission during the 2007 floods in north Bihar. Muzaffarpur district judge P K Jha set aside an earlier order of a subordinate court dismissing the complaint accusing Lalu of landing the helicopter in 2007 without permission.

Panaji: The BJP on Tuesday demanded removal of state Director General of Police DGP B S Bassi for likening casinos to temples and churches and thereby hurting the religious sentiments of people. Bassi had earlier defended his subordinates for their offshore casino junket last Wednesday.

Chiranjeevi escapes electrocution
