While clearing the national manufacturing policy,a group of ministers chaired by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar thrashed out issues raised by Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan, who had blocked the policy at the last Cabinet meeting on September 16.

To address Natarajans concerns,an officer of the State Pollution Control Board will be deputed to the special purpose vehicle to be set up to administer the manufacturing investment zones under the new policy. The Centre and state will delegate powers under relevant statutes to this officer.

The special purpose vehicle,to be headed by a senior government official, itself will ensure an environment impact study for the area after zoning.

Not present at the Cabinet meeting today,Natarajan said her ministrys concerns had been fully addressed. We are happy that the policy has been cleared, she said.
