Mumbai ACP shoots self

An assistant Commissioner of Police committed suicide by shooting himself in his right temple with his 9-mm service pistol in his office at the Dahisar Police Station premises here on Monday afternoon. This was barely an hour after the officer,Baburao Gaikwad 57,had attended a routine crime conference at the Azad Maidan Police Club.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity,senior Mumbai Police officers refuted speculation that Gaikwad had been pulled up by his seniors during the meeting. They also stated that preliminary inquiries had revealed that a personal problem could have forced the officer to take the extreme step.

Meanwhile,the police officers in Dahisar,who are probing the case,said the exact motive behind the suicide was not yet known and further investigations were on.
