Accusing a BJP legislator of accepting Rs 1.50 lakh for raising an issue in the Assembly,a man has approached the police, four days after the budget session got over.

In a written complaint to Kamla Nagar Police Station,Ashok Kumar,a resident of Bhopal’s M P Nagar locality, alleged that he had paid Rs 50,000 in cash through an acquaintance and deposited a cheque for Rs 1 lakh in Mungaoli MLA Rao Deshraj Singh Yadav’s account, but the matter was not raised in the Assembly’s budget session that got over on March 19.

Both Kumar and his acquaintance Paritosh Jain identify themselves as journalists, working for little-known media organisations. Kumar said he gave Rs 50,000 to Jain in July last year and when told to pay more money he deposited an account payee cheque in September. The complainant has produced a copy of the legislator’s bank account.

While denying the charge, the MLA admitted that he had rented Jain his house in Riviera Township and asked the tenant to deposit the monthly rent of Rs 15,000 to his bank account. The legislator said he had neither met nor spoken to the complainant ever and described the complaint as fallout of the dispute between Kumar and Jain. He claimed he was not aware of the cheque payment in his account.
