Modi to address meet in US via video

The list of six keynote speakers includes deputy chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia and chairman of Adani Group Gautam Adani.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi will be one of the keynote speakers at the Wharton India Economic Forum (WIEF) to be held at Penn Museum in Philadelphia,its official website announced. The list of six keynote speakers includes deputy chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia and chairman of Adani Group Gautam Adani. There was speculation on whether this would mean Modi getting a US visa,however the Wharton India website clarified that both Modi and Ahluwalia would be speaking via video-conference. Union MoS,IT & Communications Milind Deora is also among the keynote speakers. WIEF is a student-run India-centric conference.

Afzal’s body: Civil society writes to PM

After Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,a group of civil society members from Kashmir have written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking “unconditional return” of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s body. “The way Mohammad Afzal Guru’s rights,with regard to the fate of his body and burial,have been denied represents a serious violation of human rights and a gross disregard of the sentiments of the people of J&K,” reads the resolution,signed by 850 members including lawyers,doctors,journalists,businessmen,government employees and students. A copy has been sent to Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde,Speaker Meira Kumar and J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
