Modi compares Cong with rupee, targets ‘gem in Manmohan court’

Modi addressed two more election rallies on Monday — in Ganganagar and Hanumangarh.

Using a joke trending on social media,an upbeat Narendra Modi asked a crowd at Khetdi in Jhunjhunu Monday morning,“Kya pehle giregi,Congress ki aabru ya rupaya? (What will fall faster,Congress’ respect or the value of rupee?)”

Modi said “policy paralysis has paralysed the UPA government” and asked how a government that cannot save the rupee can save the industries that are shutting down.

He attacked union minister Kapil Sibal without taking his name. “The UPA has an erudite minister. When God was distributing brains,he was the first in line. Just like Akbar had nine gems in his court,he is the gem of Manmohan Singh’s court. He says that the reason behind inflation is the poor,” Modi told a gathering in Bikaner.

Modi compared the UPA government with nervous students going to examinations. “There are some students who throughout the year do not pray but who before examinations suddenly remember God. The Congress is just like them. For all five years they do not think of the poor but right before the elections they start chanting ‘gareeb, gareeb, gareeb’. I request columnists and journalists to pull out pre-poll speeches of Indira Gandhi,Rajiv Gandhi,Sonia Gandhi or Shehzada. You will find them mentioning the poor. To think of the poor only to get votes is a matter of fashion for them,” he said. “Shehzada said,‘Till we don’t do politics of the poor we don’t enjoy it’. Jab mazaa karne ka man kare tab gareeb ki baat karte hai (When they want to enjoy themselves, they talk of the poor).”

He attacked Ashok Gehlot: “Rajasthan used to contribute 5 per cent to the tourism of the country, next only to Agra… Ever since this gentleman (Gehlot) has taken over, instances of rape, murder and loot have affected tourism in Rajasthan. The world is going to see a three-trillion-dollar business in tourism, and tourism is the backbone of Rajasthan’s economy, but it is on the decline.”

He went on to say that tourism gives jobs to auto drivers, pakora wala, bhujia wala, biscuit and chocolate sellers, chai walas — and added,“I am happiest when chai walas earn well.”

Modi addressed two more election rallies on Monday — in Ganganagar and Hanumangarh. He will return to Rajasthan on November 28 and 29.
