Mistry rebuts money charge, gets party backing

Pankaj Sanghvi and two central leaders were actually involved in the decision.

Congress general secretary Madhusudan Mistry Thursday strongly rebutted allegations against him by a Congressman in Indore regarding exchange of money in the distribution of party tickets and declared his intent to file a defamation suit. The party high command was also learnt to be of the view that there was a deliberate attempt to malign Mistry’s image and is in the process of initiating disciplinary action against PCC secretary Raghu Parmar, who made the allegations.

Parmar, who was denied a party ticket, had accused Mistry, chairman of the screening committee for Madhya Pradesh,of taking money to allot party ticket for Indore-5 constituency. Minutes of the screening committee meetings, however, made it clear that Mistry had no role in allotting the ticket to Pankaj Sanghvi and two central leaders were actually involved in the decision.

An enraged Mistry was learnt to have called up senior party leaders from the state seeking to know at whose behest he was being targeted.

Union minister and screening committee member Jitendra Singh defended Mistry: “I have known Mistry for many years and vouch that he is a man of impeccable integrity. The MP screening committee made all the decisions as a group after due diligence…. I deplore this frivolous allegation.”
