An IAS officer and an IFS officer are among the seven people set to be chargesheeted on Wednesday by the Central Bureau of Investigation,alongside former Karnataka minister and businessman G Janardhana Reddy,following a probe into the illegal mining activities by the Associated Mining Company AMC run by the former minister.
The CBI is bringing charges of conspiracy,theft,corruption and violations of mining and forest laws against Reddy,his wife G Lakshmi Aruna,close associate Mehfuz Ali Khan and four others in the chargesheet to be filed on October 30 when the 90-day deadline since Reddys arrest in the AMC case lapses.
The chargesheet will be filed before 5 pm on Wednesday,otherwise all the accused will be released on bail, said a CBI source.
Reddy,his wife and their associates are accused of conspiring with government officials in Karnataka to steal large quantities of iron ore from the mines of Bellary for exports and domestic supplies by passing off the iron ore as being produced in the AMCs mines.
HC no to Italy plea,imposes Rs 1 lakh cost
The Kerala High Court on Tuesday rejected the petitions of the Italian government and its two marines to quash the FIR registered against the marines accused of killing two fishermen off the Kerala coast earlier this year. Judge P S Gopinanthan directed the Italian Consulate in Mumbai,which had represented the Italian government,to pay Rs 1 lakh towards court expenses. Besides,the families of the two deceased fishermen were asked to pay Rs 10,000 each.
