In A major reshuffle,the government has decided to replace CRPF chief Vikram Srivastava.

In A major reshuffle,the government has decided to replace Central Reserve Police Force CRPF chief Vikram Srivastava with 1975-batch Tamil Nadu-cadre IPS officer K Vijay Kumar.

Kumar,who hit the headlines for leading the security operations that led to sandalwood smuggler Veerappans killing in 2004,heads the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel SVP National Police Academy in Hyderabad. He supercedes two other officers to the post of DG,Vijay Raman and N K Tripathi both serving as Special Director General.

The government has also decided to transfer Tripathi from his current posting in Jamp;K to take charge as DG,National Crime Records Bureau.

Srivastava had been facing criticism for the number of CRPF personnel killed during his term at the helm,including the Dantewada massacre that left 75 dead. He moves to the Bureau of Police Research and Development BPRamp;D.

Vijay Kumar is expected to take charge of the CRPF the countrys largest paramilitary force sometime next week when formal orders are likely to be issued. NCRB Director General Rajiv Mathur,a 1974-batch IPS officer,replaces him at the SVP National Police Academy.

A Tamil Nadu-cadre officer,Kumar is believed to have planned the Operation Cacoon that led to Veerappans killing. He has also served in the Special Protection Force unit of Rajiv Gandhi,as DIG in the Special Task Force,and also as IGP,Operations,BSF. Between December 2001 and November 2003,he was posted as Chennai Police Commissioner.
