India Friday welcomed the reconciliation deal between Fatah and Hamas to set up a transitional unity government and hold elections in Palestine.

India welcomes the reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas which ends the differences between the West Bank and Gaza and hopes that this would promote the realisation of the aspirations of the Palestinian people,and leads to peace and stability in the region, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Friday.

After years of rivalry,Fatah and Hamas signed an Egypt-brokered reconciliation accord in Cairo on Wednesday.
