Maya orders probe into Amethi violence

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday ordered a magisterial probe into the Amethi incident in which locals were allegedly lathi-charged after they protested against the long power cuts in the area earlier this week.

The CM has also transferred Sultanpur SP R K Chaturvedi and made him new police chief of Etah district. While the Station House Officer concerned has been asked to report to Police Lines,the PAC jawans deployed in the area have also been shifted out. Etah SP Satyendra Veer Singh will take over from Chaturvedi.

A statement said the Chief Minister had taken a serious note of the hooliganism of Congress party workers and ordered the inquiry. She also criticised the persons who tried to disturb the law and order in Amethi,it said.
