Students bodies in Manipur on Thursday declared an indefinite ban on products from Karnataka and gave counsellors and representatives of educational institutions from that state 24 hours to leave Manipur.
The students are protesting the antipathy of governments in Delhi and Bangalore towards probes into the deaths of two Manipuri youths Richard Loitam and Okram Laba in suspicious circumstances. DESAM general secretary Arambam Thoithoi, who is leading the agitation of which student bodies AMSU,MSF,SUK and SWAK too are part, said,We have been asking for CBI probes, but neither case has been handed over to CBI. Till this happens,we will ensure that no Karnataka product is allowed into Manipur.
A huge number of institutes and universities come from Karnataka to recruit Manipuri students. Starting at 6 this evening,we have given them 24 hours to leave, Arambam said.
