Twin blasts rocked Manipur capital Imphal on Wednesday killing two and injuring four persons,a day after an early morning blast injured two children and three migrant workers in Thangal Bazaar in the city.
The police said no insurgent group owned responsibility for any of the blasts.
The first explosion on Wednesday took place at Moreh Van Parking near Yaiskul,on the National Highway connecting Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh. The IED blast at 6.30 in the morning killed two persons,one of them on the spot. The dead were identified as Hollum Taothang,45,from Churachandpur district and Leishung Brojen,32,from Imphal East. The injured were taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.
The second blast at 10.45 in the morning at Moidangpok in Imphal West district was a low intensity blast and there were no casualties. Police suspect it was targeted at security forces usually patrolling the area.
Chief Minister Ibobi Singh condemned the blasts and said such acts serve to spoil the image of Manipur and affect momentum of its development. Home Minister G Gaikhagnam visited the injured at RIMS hospital and provided medical assistance of Rs 5,000 to each.
Tuesdays blast at 5.58 am near Dharamshala in Thangal Bazaar area,where traders and businessmen from other parts of the country usually lodge,injured five persons including two children. Police said Tuesdays blast was an IED triggered by remote control.
The blasts come just over a month after nine migrant workers were killed and 12 injured in an explosion at Khoyathong.
