Loss of upper caste votes will lead to Nitish ouster: Paswan

In the backdrop of the recent Kisan Mahapanchayat where some RJD and LJP leaders joined hands with JDU rebels Prabhunath Singh and Lalan Singh to criticise Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on the Bataidar Bill,LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan told The Indian Express that the Bill will lead to caste clashes.

Bataidari has pitted the upper caste against Nitish. And with Prabhunath Singh and Lalan Singh speaking up against the CM,the upper caste votes, especially those of Bhumihars and Rajputs, will slide away from Nitish, Paswan claimed.

He said the upper caste votes about 16 per cent are like bulldozers that can raze a government.

Working out his winning formula for the Assembly polls,Paswan said Yadav-Paswan and Muslims,a disoriented Congress, and fragmented upper caste votes will together spell ouster of Nitish.

Nitish had intended to become another Jyoti Basu by proposing land reforms, but he will end up losing the Bihar crown, Paswan said, terming the government anti-farmer and Nitishs present Biswas Yatra as Biswasghat Yatra betrayal march.

Regarding the Mahapanchayat,he said,We support the farmers cause, but not the group. We are against the Bataidari Bill.

Asked why LJP leader Suraj Bhan and some RJD leaders were part of the Mahapanchayat without severing ties with their parties,he said none of these leaders have quit their respective parties and moreover, the Kisan Mahapanchayat is not a political group.

On his chances of entering the Rajya Sabha with RJD support,he said,Of the six seats from Bihar,RJD-LJP will surely get two seats with support of the CPI and Independents. Also, the Congress abstaining from voting will help us get the two seats.

Asked if LJP-RJD relationship will sour if he does not get a Rajya Sabha berth,Paswan said,There are no chances of differences under any circumstances. We have already paid the price for being divided after February 2005 Assembly elections.
