Lockheed Martin thwarts 8220;significant8221; cyber attack

The top US defence contractor assured that no customer data had been compromised.

Lockheed Martin,one the world8217;s largest aerospace companies,on Sunday said it had successfully thwarted 8220;a significant and tenacious8221; attack on its sensitive information systems network.

8220;Lockheed Martin detected a significant and tenacious attack on its information systems network,8221; the top US defence contractor said in statement.

Lockheed learned of the attack on May 21 and the company8217;s information security team quickly detected the attack and that no customer,programme or employee personal data has been compromised,CNN reported.

It did not elaborate on the nature of the attack.

8220;Throughout the ongoing investigation,Lockheed Martin has continued to keep the appropriate US government agencies informed of our actions,8221; the statement said.

8220;The team continues to work around the clock to restore employee access to the network,while maintaining the highest level of security.8221;

The Pentagon said it is working to establish the extent of the breach.

Lt Col April Cunningham,speaking for the US defence department,said the impact on the Pentagon was 8220;minimal and we don8217;t expect any adverse effect8221;.

Bethesda-based Lockheed Martin,which makes fighter jets,ships and other major weapons systems,is one the world8217;s largest aerospace companies.
