Days after Trinamool Congress MP K D Singh was let off after being stopped at the Delhi airport with Rs 57 lakh in cash, the Left parties on Monday approached the Election Commission, urging it to look into the matter and redeem its commitment to ensuring polls uncontaminated by money power.
In a memorandum to the EC,Left leaders said that monitoring of the trail of the money found in possession of Singh and a thorough inquiry of his whereabouts and activities is urgently called for. It reminded the EC that the CE C had said media reports exposing malpractices and violations of the poll code would be treated as complaints.
The Left leaders said they were surprised that the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security let off the MP. Most importantly, the money was not confiscated. This is rather strange because even if the source is known, nobody can vouch for the manner of end use, they said.
