Having joined hands with the Left and TDP in seeking a judicial inquiry into the coal block allocations and resumption of work in Parliament,Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday fuelled talks about a third front, but the Left and other non-UPA,non-NDA parties appeared wary of the SP chiefs intentions because of his unpredictable nature.

Holding a sit-in outside Parliament along with Left and TDP MPs,Mulayam prodded party men to shout united front zindabad, surprising many. He as well as the Left and TDP were in the United Front that formed government in 1996. When asked whether this was a precursor to a third front,he told reporters they were free to deduce conclusions.

But CPM leaders refused to attach much significance to the united front slogan and said they were looking at short-term association. We have joined hands on this particular issue, said CPMs Basudeb Acharia. Mulayams penchant for switching sides,it seems, was playing on the minds of the Left leaders. In 2008,he ditched them and helped Congress prove majority in Parliament.

CPM Sitaram Yechury said,Only time will tell what will happen in the future.

They are Congs B team: BJP

Terming the SP and Left as the B-team of Congress, the BJP on Friday sought to brush aside their united front protest and dug its heels demanding the PMs resignation. BJPs Shahnawaz Hussain said,The Congresss B-team under Mulayams leadership has its letter of support to the UPA with the President. They cannot claim to be in the opposition.
