Kangna Ranaut gets candid on just released Double Dhamaal, favourite comedies,co-stars and more.
Did you see the original Dhamaal to get a sense of director Indra Kumar’s humour?
I watched Dhamaal when it released four years back, and thought it was one of the funniest films I have ever seen. When the script for Double Dhamaal came my way,I wanted to do it right away!
There were no girls in Dhamaal,so how do you and Mallika Sherawat fit in the sequel?
It retains its essence as a guy film with the boys at its core, which is terrific. But if you see the film Mallika and I have parts that are crucial to the plot.
What is the good thing about working in a sequel?
Sequels are build on brands and they take forward characters of which the audience is already fond. Sanjay Dutt,Riteish Deshmukh,Arshad Warsi and others were already etched in the people’s minds so it was easy for them to connect.
Do you think your hit film Tanu Weds Manu makes the cut for a sequel?
Sequels may not work for every film. Sometimes you have a hit film, but the story is complete, and a sequel may look forced. Tanu Weds Manu was a fantastic film, but may not warrant a sequel.
Who among all the boys was the most fun,and who did you get along the best?
All of them were terrific. I have never laughed as much on a film set.
What is Indra Kumar’s forte as a director?
He really understands how to direct a comedy. It is not easy to capture comic timing and deliver a funny script on screen. Indra has this rare art.
Which is your favourite comedy?
Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron because of its dark humour and Andaz Apna Apna because of Aamir Khans and Salman Khan’s antics.
Your favourite scene from a comedy?
The scene in Andaz… where all three,Aamir,Salman and Paresh Rawal are trying to squeeze themselves on a motorcycle is very funny.
Which actor according to you excels at comedies? All the boys in Double Dhamaal are fantastic!
How is Sunny Deol,your co-star in I Love New Year,as a person?
Sunny is one of the most dignified actors I have seen, and I can see that he commands a lot of respect on the sets.
