Petition filed for review of SC order scrapping NRO

Islamabad: Pakistan on Saturday filed a petition seeking a review of the Supreme Courts order that scrapped a graft amnesty,which benefited thousands of people,including President Asif Ali Zardari,and directed authorities to reopen cases against them. Another appeal filed by officials of the National Accountability Bureau NAB,Pakistans main anti-corruption agency,too sought a review of the apex courts verdict of December 16 that struck down the National Reconciliation Ordinance NRO.

Japan kingmaker vows to stay on

Tokyo: Ichiro Ozawa,the kingmaker of Japans ruling coalition,said on Saturday he had no plans to quit over his alleged involvement in a growing political funding scandal and vowed to clear his name. Prosecutors arrested a ruling party lawmaker and two others all close to Ozawa over alleged financial irregularities within his political funding group,which has already been raided by investigators.
