Mubarak could face death penalty

CAIRO: Egypts ousted President Hosni Mubarak would face the death penalty if convicted of ordering the shooting of protesters during the uprisings that brought him down,Egypts new justice minister said Saturday. Mohammed el-Guindi told Al-Ahram Saturday that Mubarak,his two sons and wife are also facing allegations of corruption,which he said the former president had made the chief discourse of his government. Certainly,if convicted for killing protesters,it could result in the death sentence, said el-Guindi.

Saleh due to sign transition deal

SANAA: Yemens president was to sign an agreement on Saturday to quit power in a months time in exchange for immunity in a deal that,if implemented,would make him the third Arab ruler ousted by a wave of popular uprisings. Ali Abdullah Saleh has in-principle accepted the agreement negotiated by his oil-exporting neighbours in the six-state Gulf Cooperation Council. Yemens main opposition coalition,which includes both Islamists and leftists,has also agreed to the deal.

Iraqi judge,wife,daughter killed

BAGHDAD: Iraqi officials say a judge,his wife and daughter were killed when their house was blown up. Police say the attackers planted three bombs around the judges house in a village near Taji,north of Baghdad,that exploded before dawn Saturday. The spokesman for the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council,Abdul-Sattar Bayrkdar,confirmed the death of Tuma al-Timimi,a judge in western Baghdad. The spokesman accused insurgents of targeting judges for their roles in

combating terrorism.

Morocco king visits site of terror attack

MARRAKESH: Moroccan King Mohammed VI visited a cafe in Marrakesh that was the target of a deadly bombing earlier this week. The monarch spent about 10 minutes inspecting the debris at Argana cafe,where at least 16 people including 14 foreign visitors were killed when a bomb ripped through the tourist attraction on Thursday.
