The opposition cadres in Tamil Nadu are up in arms against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi over his reported decision to prefix the title Mrs whenever he referred to Opposition leader and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa.
What seems to have irked the octogenarian leader is Jayas repeated taunt of him being the head of a minority Government,as his party does not have simple majority in the House of 234.
At a function recently, when Karunanidhi,an otherwise careful speaker, referred to Jaya as Thirumathi Mrs Jayalalithaa and not the accepted Selvi Miss,he was asked to clarify whether it was a mistake. The Chief Minister replied that so long as she continued to term his government a minority government.
An angry Jaya immediately retorted that the Chief Minister has humiliated the entire women community by making a personal attack on her. It is a fact that this DMK Government does not have a majority in the state Assembly. What is wrong in calling it a minority regime? she asked in a statement. The personal attack, she added, was an attempt to insult her.
Though there are many rumours about her marital status,Jaya has maintained that she is unmarried.
