J-K miners call off stir

Work resumed at all coal mines in Kalakote as miners suspended their agitation following the state governments assurance

Work resumed at all coal mines in Kalakote Wednesday as miners suspended their agitation following the state governments assurance that their grievances would be redressed. All the 500-odd workers, who had been on an indefinite fast inside the Moghla coal mine for the last week, have now come out.

We decided to suspend our agitation following a call from Thakur Rachpal Singh,MLA and vice-chairman of State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans, said Bharatiya Coal Khan Mazdoor Sanghthan working president Rajesh Gupta.

Singh enjoys the status of a minister of state in the Omar Abdullah government.

The miners had gone on a fast inside the mine to press their demand for a hike in wages and allowances.
