The police have launched a manhunt to arrest Sarpanch Aslam Khan and his 14 supporters after a labourer,Abdul Majid Thakker 40,was stripped in front of villagers and paraded in Central Kashmirs Kotabal village on Friday.

The sarpanch, according to villagers,is close to J-K Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, who represents the constituency where the incident took place. The police have raided several places to nab him.

Budgam SSP Uttam Chand said a case has been registered. The police have already raided several places to arrest the persons involved in the incident, he said.

Thakker, his mother, wife, and three children have taken shelter in neighbouring Brenwar village as Khan has allegedly issued death threats to the family.

Thakker, who has lodged a written complaint at a local police station, said that he will not return to his village till culprits are arrested.

I had a land dispute with my paternal uncle from the past several months and Khan was trying to enforce his decision on me. When I refused,he and his supporters forcibly entered into my house, he said, adding that the sarpanch thrashed him and later when his mother and wife tried to intervene they too were beaten up mercilessly.

On the directions of sarpanch, his supporters tore off my clothes and took me out in an open field; later they paraded me in the entire village, and spit on me and abused me, he alleged. He said that Khan and his supporters also tore off his wifes clothes.
