Jharkhand Congress MLA surrenders

Congress MLA Sawna Lakra,wanted by the police in connection with the murder of a college student,surrendered before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate.

Congress MLA Sawna Lakra,wanted by the police in connection with the murder of a college student,surrendered before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Tuesday.

According to the police,Lakra was wanted in connection with the murder of Avinash Kumar,who they believe was in love with Lakra’s niece Usha.

On April 27,Avinash’s father Sanjay Tiwari,a resident of Garhwa district,had filed an FIR complaining that his son was missing and that he feared that he had been abducted and killed by Lakra,the MLA from Khijri.

In the FIR,Tiwari said that his son had fallen in love with Usha but since his affair was not approved by her family,Lakra with his bodyguard Vijay Kumar and driver Vinay Kumar allegedly kidnapped him,beat him up and shot him dead.

A day later,the police recovered Avinash’s body from an isolated site under a bridge on the Karra-Lodhma road. The autopsy report showed that Avinash died of a bullet injury on his head. On May 9,CJM Sitaram Prasad issued a non-bailable warrant against Lakra. “We have to interrogate Lakra and record his statement before we file the chargesheet against him,” said Ranchi SSP Praveen Singh.
